چکیده

We present a novel approach to handle collisions of deformable objects represented by tetrahedral meshes. The scheme combines the physical correctness of constraint methods with the efficiency of penalty approaches. For a set of collided points, a collision-free state is computed that is governed by the elasticities and impulses of the collided objects. In contrast to existing constraint methods we show how to decouple the resulting system of equations in order to avoid

Constraint-Based Contact Analysis between Deformable Objects

The key to the successful simulation of deformable objects is to model the realistic behavior of deformation when they are influenced by intricate contact conditions and geometric constraints. This paper describes constraint-based contact modeling between deformable objects using a nonlinear finite element method. In contrast to the penalty force based approaches, constraint-based enforcement o...

Real-time Reduced Large-Deformation Models and Distributed Contact for Computer Graphics and Haptics PhD Thesis

This thesis presents novel algorithms for deformable dynamics, collision detection and contact resolution between reduced nonlinear 3D deformable objects, for use in interactive computer graphics and haptics. The deformable models investigated are elastic, volumetric, and capable of undergoing large deformations. Each mesh vertex of a general 3D deformable object has three degrees of freedom. N...

Résolution du contact frottant entre objets déformables en temps réel et avec retour haptique. (Friction contact resolution between deformable objects in interactive simulation with haptic feedback)

This thesis deals with the solving of multiple friction contact problems between deformable bodies in the specific area of interactive simulation with force feedback. The general context of this work is the training of medical-surgical gestures via an haptic device. In this type of context, it is often necessary to take into account the global deformations of the organs and the local contact fo...

Contact Surface Computation for Coarsely Sampled Deformable Objects

We introduce a new collision response scheme that handles collisions between deformable objects with triangulated surfaces. Based on internal forces and penetration depth information, the approach computes the contact surface of interpenetrating objects. In particular, we address discontinuity problems that arise in discrete-time simulations with coarse surface representations. The approach is ...
